More storage space without new construction?

When a four-way reach truck makes the difference.

Many companies that work with long materials – aluminium profiles, tubes, wood, steel – sooner or later encounter the same limitation: space.

Traditional solutions like a counterbalance forklift or a classic reach truck require relatively wide aisles. This means:

  • Less storage capacity
  • More room to maneuver
  • Less efficient use of the warehouse

But what if you could use the same hall 25% to even 50% more efficiently?

What is a four-way reach truck?

A four-way reach truck – also called a multi-directional truck – can drive not only forward and backward, but also sideways. This allows long loads to be maneuvered in much narrower aisles.

The HELI CQD four-way reach truck is specifically designed for applications where long goods and narrow aisles meet.

Typical features:

  • Capacity around 2.5 to 3 tons
  • Lifting heights up to 6 meters and higher
  • Electric drive
  • Closed cabin possible
  • Suitable for long loads and heavy profiles

Thanks to sideways driving, the aisle can be designed significantly narrower than with conventional solutions.

Wheel configuration: 3-wheel or 4-wheel?

With four-way reach trucks, there is a technical difference between a 3-wheel and a 4-wheel version.

The 4-wheel version generally offers more stability, especially on less even or older concrete floors. In warehouses where the floor isn't completely level, this can be a significant advantage in terms of driving comfort, safety, and precision when lifting at greater heights.

For applications on a perfectly finished floor, a 3-wheel version can be more manoeuvrable.

The right choice therefore depends not only on capacity or lifting height, but also on the surface on which work is carried out daily.

When is this interesting?

A four-way reach truck is particularly interesting when:

  • You work with long loads (3m, 4m, 6m or longer)
  • Your warehouse space is limited
  • New construction is not an option
  • You want to increase your storage capacity without adding extra square meters

In such situations, a reanalysis of the warehouse layout can often yield more than expected.

In places where you can invest in a new building, you can use it efficiently.

To fit a smaller hallway:

  • Is the storage increasing?
  • These maneuvers carry risks and shame.
  • Is the logistics flow becoming more predictable?

A four-way reach truck is not a standard solution, but in the right context it is a very well-considered investment.

Space is precious. Insight even more so.

At Immer-Goed we don't just look at the device, but the entire application:

  • Type of goods
  • Length of the loads
  • Gangway widths
  • Lifting heights
  • Daily rotation

We then examine whether a multi-directional solution truly offers added value.
